Megan gave a flirty smile and Amber giggled even more, causing Megan to start. If there was one thing Megan had to give her new boss credit for, it was that she was stunning. Older, but stunning. Her curves fit perfectly in her tight pencil skirt and button down shirt. She even wore stiletto heels instead of those traditional kitten heels that most teachers wore. It was a shame she was so cold on the inside, because on the outside she was fire. Megan wondered how old she was.

“She might have it going on.” Megan answered giggling.

“Might, my ass! She is totally smoking isn’t she?! You are so lucky. Even if she is an evil bitch, at least you will have something smoking to look at all day!” Amber whined, her boss was anything but fun to look at.

“Nothing is going to happen, not now and not ever. I am there for work. Not for anything else.” Megan said with a serious voice.

It didn’t matter how much fun Deborah was to look at, nothing would ever come of it. Megan wasn’t going to let her desires take over her. She was there to work and it was just that simple. She could be a nun for a while and then find someone else to hook up with once she was settled in at work. She had spent five years like this so it wasn't anything new. Tomorrow was just going to be another day at the office.

  3

It was day two of her job and once again Megan was running fifteen minutes late. She couldn’t believe her bad luck. She had got up thirty minutes early today to get Lola ready for school and at her school on time. Megan thought it was going to be a perfect day, she would get to work on time and Lola would be happy in school. Except, she didn’t expect the massive amount of traffic there was going to be between Lola’s school and her job. Because of where they lived, Lola’s school was on the opposite side of town and at just after eight in the morning the traffic was horrific. It took her almost an hour to get across town to work. She had no idea what she was going to do tomorrow. She had to drop Lola off at eight for the before school care, it couldn’t be earlier. So tomorrow, the time would be the same, meaning the traffic would be the same. She was going to have to try tonight and see if there was a different route that might be further in distance, but hopefully less traffic and just might get her to work on time.

Megan rushed into the building and headed straight for her office to toss her coat and bag down before taking a couple calming breaths and heading into Deborah’s office. The look that Kathy gave her did nothing to ease her fears. Megan knocked on the door and waited to be told to enter. Deborah did not like it when you just walked into her office, even after you knocked. She wanted you to wait there until she gave you permission to enter, something Megan found out yesterday in a not so pleasant way.

“Enter.” Deborah said in a tone that made Megan cringe.

Megan walked into the office and Deborah didn’t even bother to look up at her. She already knew it would be Megan. Deborah continued to work on the paperwork in front of her, without giving Megan any attention.

“Ma’am,” Megan started, but was quickly silenced by a raised hand.

Megan had no choice but to stand there and wait for when Deborah was ready to speak with her. She did her best not to slouch or roll her eyes at the whole show. Yes she was late today, but it was the traffic, that wasn’t her fault. She even got up thirty minutes early just so she would get to Lola’s school on time. She couldn’t be held accountable for traffic. After five minutes Deborah finally stopped writing and looked up at Megan. Deborah didn’t speak right away, instead she took in the young woman in front of her. Despite her young age and appearance, she was not very fashionable. Megan’s clothing was on the low quality end, something that could have easily been found in the thrift shop. It instantly made Deborah wonder just what this woman spent her money on. Being a personal assistant might not pay as well as being a doctor, but it was above minimum wage. There was no ring on her finger, so it didn’t go to a spouse. Deborah couldn’t help but maybe think Megan spent her money on alcohol or drugs, it would certainly explain how she was always late and looked a mess, despite it being a new job.

Though, if Deborah was honest with herself, there was something about this young woman that intrigued her. Enough to make her pick her over all of the other overly qualified candidates that she had for this position. There was something about those blue eyes, an intensity, a spark, she dreamt about them last night. She couldn’t help but wonder what they would look like when they were flooded with pleasure. It was a desire that would have to stay in her mind only. Megan was her employee and that is what she would always be. Not once in her entire career had she ever slept with an employee and she was not about to let this messy blonde girl ruin that now.

“Ms Campbell, please explain to me how it seems to be impossible for you to show up on time.” Deborah said with an icy tone.

“I’m sorry Ma’am. I live on the other side of town, I left forty-five minutes early, but the traffic was insane.” Megan made sure she threw in as much remorse in her voice as possible.

“Then leave an hour early. I don’t care if you have to leave two hours early, you will get here on time tomorrow or you will not have a job. Do I make myself clear?”

“Yes Ma’am.” Megan knew she had to say yes. The problem was, she had no idea how she was going to pull it off.

“Your list has been updated. You need to upload the new schedule within the system for the students to show the changes to their timetables. There was a glitch and now everyone is showing up at the wrong time and at the wrong classes.”

“Yes Ma’am, I will get right on that. How do I go about making the change in the database software?” Megan hated having to ask her anything, as it didn’t go over so well yesterday whenever she had a question. Despite being a teacher, Deborah really hated questions.

“I showed you where it was yesterday. Surely you are not that stupid that you can’t remember where something is.” Deborah said, not impressed at all and already reaching her limit for the day.

“No Ma’am, it’s just that you showed it to me briefly and you didn’t go over everything that entailed within the software. As it is a new software for me, I was hoping for just a quick explanation. You would know it better than anyone.” Megan said with a charming smile, but once again it had zero effect on Deborah.

“If I did everything myself there would be no need to have you. Which might be the better option if you are this incapable of figuring something out. Get it done, and I expect it to be done right the first time. No more little stupid mistakes like you made yesterday. You claim to be a professional and have experience in this field, I suggest you stop acting like a rookie and show me you are capable of doing this job.”

“Yes Ma’am. I will handle it for you.” A smile plastered on her face once again, though this one was very much fake.

“Kathy has files that you need to organize and file properly,” Deborah said before she went back to work and Megan had been dismissed.

“I’ll get right on it Ma’am.” Megan said with a smile, even though Deborah didn’t see it.

Megan headed out and over to Kathy to see what the files were.

“Those boxes at your desk are the files. They all need to have new labels placed in accordance with what Ms Stewart wants, then you need to refile them alphabetically. She needs it done by the end of the day along with your other duties.” Kathy said with a knowing smile.

Megan looked over at her desk. The boxes had been there yesterday as well so she didn’t think much of it. Now, she was not looking forward to going through them. There were ten paper boxes and all of them were full of files. It would take her hours, plus she had her other tasks that she needed to complete. Megan couldn’t stay late, she had to pick up Lola. All she could do was hope that she could get it done today.

“Thanks Kathy.” Megan said with a warm smile. It wasn’t her fault that Megan was going to have to work through lunch.

  “Good luck.”

Megan headed over and got started on the first box, today was lo
oking to be another long day.

It was nearing lunch hour when Megan stretched her arms above her head. She had been sitting hunched over her desk going through the endless number of files. She hadn’t moved at all in three hours. Now it was almost lunch time and she was in desperate need of caffeine. Megan got up and headed to the staff lounge where she could grab some coffee to have with her lunch back at her desk. The staff lounge was not busy at all, as most teachers were finishing up their class before lunch would begin. There was one man in the lounge by the coffeemaker. Megan hadn’t seen him before, not too surprising really.

The man was very good looking. Megan could see through his suit jacket that this man had some muscles to him. He was looked Spanish, with dark brown hair and brown eyes. He turned around and when his eyes landed on Megan, a warm smile graced his features.

“You must be the new assistant to the Ice Queen.”

“Is that what everyone calls her?” Megan asked with her own warm smile, walking closer to the coffeemaker.

“That tends to be her nickname. I’m Juan Garcia, Head of Languages.” Juan said, holding his hand out to Megan.

“Megan Campbell. It’s nice to meet you.” Megan said, shaking the offered hand.

“How has your time been?” Juan asked, as Megan got her coffee.

“It’s been difficult, but nothing I can’t handle. She is not my first difficult boss, they all warm up to me eventually.”

“I bet they do.” Juan said with a flirty smile.

Megan gave him a smile in return, but she was not interested in starting anything with anyone, especially in this school. She was here to work, it was just that simple to her.

“I’ll see you around I guess then.” She said, as she grabbed her coffee.

“Oh you can count on it.”

Megan headed out of there and went right back to her desk. She pulled out her packed lunch and got back to work. She had to get these files done today and the clock was ticking.

It was nearing the end of the school day and Deborah found herself once again watching Megan from her desk. No matter how many times she had told herself to ignore the young woman. She was supposed to be focused on her marking and yet, every few minutes she was looking over at Megan. It was an intense sexual attraction and Deborah knew she would need to do something about it to remove this attraction. It had been close to a year since she had been with anyone, perhaps it was time she found a one-night stand to play with. Someone that could take the edge off and then she would be able to focus without imagining what her assistant would look like spread open on her desk.

Deborah let out a sigh and began to pack up her things. There was no way she was going to be able to focus on her marking with Megan sitting over there. As she was all packed up she saw as Juan walked into Megan’s office with some roses in a vase. Deborah was instantly interested in what was going on. She saw the big warm smile Megan gave Juan and the one he gave her in return. She took the vase and smelled the flowers and Juan continued to speak. Deborah couldn’t make out what was being said, but it looked very friendly, too friendly in her opinion. Megan had only been here two days and she was already looking to mess around with someone. Deborah couldn’t ignore the surge of jealousy that flooded her body. She wanted nothing more than to go over there and shove those flowers in Juan’s face. Juan gave Megan a hug before he turned and left the office.

Once he was gone, Deborah was out of her seat and moving to Megan’s office before she could even register what she was doing. She didn’t bother to knock, and gave Megan the coldest look yet.

“If you are going to be sleeping with the faculty, keep it out of my office.”

“Pardon?” Megan asked, slightly confused as to where this was coming from.

“You are here to work for me. That does not include you having visitors coming by and bringing you flowers. Whatever you have going on with Mr. Garcia stays out of my office. You wish to see him it will be on your own time and not the time I am paying you for. Do I make myself clear?”

“Yes Ma’am. Though, you are mistaken. I just met him at lunch in the staff lounge. He brought me the flowers as a welcome gift. There is nothing going on between us. Even if he is interested, I couldn’t be less so.” Megan said completely serious.

Deborah squinted. Garcia was an infamous ladies man around the school. Good looking and charming. And yet, Megan was entirely believable when she said she couldn’t be less interested. Curious and curiouser thought Deborah. Megan was a curious little thing. What were her secrets?

“Well, keep your personal life out of my office. Have you finished your work?”

“I have almost all of the files completed. There are just two more boxes for me to finish up tomorrow.”

“They needed to be completed today. Perhaps if you spent less time fraternizing, you would have had them completed. You can leave when they are done. Kathy will be here as well finishing up her work and she will inform me when you leave. She will also be checking to make sure you have done it correctly before you leave. Get it done.” Deborah demanded.

“I can’t stay late Ma’am, I have to get home.”

The very last thing Megan could do was not pick up her daughter in the next thirty minutes. She didn’t have long for after school care. She had to go and get Lola.

“Do you die if you are not home at a certain hour?” Deborah asked, clearly getting more upset as this conversation continued.

  “No Ma’am.”

“Then what could possibly be more important that you need to do then finish your work? Or perhaps you don’t need this job. If that is the case then you don’t need to bother coming tomorrow.”

Megan could tell she was serious. If she didn’t stay she could kiss this job goodbye, something she couldn’t afford. If she lost this job there was no telling what would happen to Lola and her. She would have to go back to taking on multiple jobs to pay the bills and those bills would only increase because she would have to find a babysitter. There was no choice, she had to stay.

“My apologies Ma’am. I have no problem staying.” Megan said with a warm smile.

“Get it done.” Deborah demanded before she turned and headed out.

Megan let out a deep breath, she couldn’t believe this. She thought having this job would mean that she could be home with Lola every night, now it was looking like that might not be the case. She didn’t have a choice right now though and sitting here wallowing in self-pity was not going to solve anything. She pulled out her phone and quickly sent a text to Amber explaining what was happening. Amber had to work the night shift tonight, so she would need to be home by seven, doable if she rushed non-stop through the files. With confirmation from Amber, Megan got back to work.

  4

It was six-thirty the next morning and to say that Megan was exhausted would be an understatement. She had stayed at work until just after six before rushing to get home so Amber could get to work. Then she had to handle Lola, who was very excited and hyper at seeing her. When she finally got Lola down for bed it wasn’t for long before her night terrors started. Lola had been having them for a few years now, no doctor could ever tell her why. They all said the same thing, sometimes it just happens. That was normally followed by the lovely comment about how if her life was unstable it could cause stress and anxiety in Lola’s life, triggering the night terrors. So not only did she have a child that screamed most of the night at the monsters that only she could see, Megan got to feel like a complete failure that her new job was stressing Lola.

They both only got a few hours of sleep and normally Lola could sleep all day, but she had to go to school because Amber only had six hours off before she had to go back into work. Which meant Lola had to go to school and she had to go to work to deal with the Ice Queen herself. A door opening had Megan turning to see who it was. She was surprised to see Amber making her way down the hallway, rubbing her eye.

  “What are you doing up?”

  “Forgot to close my b
linds and now I need to pee. I didn’t get a chance to ask, how was work?” Amber asked, as she leaned against the kitchen entrance.

“Oh great, right up until the part where my boss lost her shit because another teacher brought me welcome flowers to my office. Or her office as she pointed out multiple times.” Megan rolled her eyes.

“What? Does she hate flowers?” Amber asked confused as to why someone would have such an issue with it.

“I think it was more to the fact that it was a male teacher doing it. She automatically assumed I was sleeping with him or trying to sleep with him.”

“Oh, is he cute?” Amber asked, slightly more awake now.

“He’s a fine piece of Spanish delight. But I’m not interested. I mean, the older I get, the gayer I get right? I get it, he’s a huge flirt, but she didn’t have to just jump to conclusions. And what is the big deal about leaving some of the filing for me to do today? I mean she’s off in her office marking when she isn’t teaching, why can’t I be working on filing old files when I have the spare time? It’s not like they are going anywhere and why the hell are they not in some database somewhere?”

“I don’t know, schools are funny that way. They like to keep their paper records in case something ever gets deleted and destroyed. You are right though, it’s not like they were of a high value that it had to get done. You could have easily done it in your free time. Sounds to me like your new boss likes to be in control of everything. This could be her way of making sure you are at her mercy and you know it.”

Megan had never thought of it like that before. She took a moment to really think about it and what Amber said did make sense. In the two days that she had been working for Deborah she had made multiple comments about her not being qualified, and all the things she did wrong. She told her multiple times that she wouldn’t have a job if she didn’t get this or that done. Of course, two of those times was because she was late, but the rest were taken to the extreme.
